A CALL FOR RESEARCH ON SOCIAL REALITIES

In this epoch of cthulhucene, it is important that mankind remains what its species is meant to be, so that coexisting with non-human forms will not degenerate to a reckless ecological risk.

It is no gainsaying that the current generation regarded as the Youth living in Nigeria, walk around with damaged personalities.

Exam malpractice is on the rise in most educational institutions, perpetrated by the youth (with other enablers though).

From miracle centers to willingly giving sex, or engaging in other forms of inducements to excel in examinations, to buying of examination questions and also, different types of forgery, this generation has also leveraged technological advancement to attain heights of greatness, and also immense plethora of criminal and unethical feats.

Socially, they have nothing to offer.

Their contracted marriages and love relationships are mostly disasters. For them, their material gratification comes before any emotional entanglement.

No researcher deems it fit to look into these astonishing areas of inhumanity to establish the remote causes of this disparity in generational attitudes.

Most children brought to cities as nannies and domestic helps bear the brunt of frustrations of these young personalities. They are tortured and their skins get scalded or actually broken with hard objects every hour. Some human rights activist emerges to question this and get the attention of the law enforcement agency. That is mostly where this ends.

We know what these enforcement agencies are capable of doing with the sight of incentives.

Recently, a young male on Facebook simply known as Spirit Husband lamented of his harrowing experience with a young female whom he dated, and genuinely loved. He narrated how he was financially extorted and emotionally abused with evidences.

The young woman is yet to put out any denials, yet this young male victim was lashed out for almost one week. For daring to feel hurt, that is.

The response from his generation was completely sadistic. His cry for help was merely met with tonnes of name-calling. While the males called him a simp, the females taunted him and affirmed he deserved to be treated that way.

No empathy, no consideration, or constructive analysis of the situation.

Yet this social reality is not something that deserves research attention?

This young generation feel entitled to people's emotions, finances and other resources. It is its belief that these are all its privilege and for the taking.

The new breed of men that are gradually garnering publicity and voice on social media, have not helped matters either. Should we call them the 'pipe and swipe' generation, or the 'alfamales'? Whatever we choose to call them, it is what it is.

However, these new breed of men would not be the subject of immediate discourse, but that too should be looked into, through academic indagation.

Toxicity has taken over the empathetic gestures that characterized two generations behind.

It is time to wake up from our slumbering and quit believing it is okay for young women to jubilate over the emotional manipulation of a young man by a woman.

If a young man decides that a woman should be undeserving of an emotional commitment on account of her body count, while with a large trail of body count, he is desirable, there is something awkward going on in the society we live in now.

Most of all, where has humanity gone to? It is an area that researchers must throw their searchlights on, before humans in this clime are overtaken by savagery.

NON-TOXIC FEMINISM: GENDER EQUALITY FROM A CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE (2)

Facebook restrictions make it difficult for social media users to express cogent opinions as they ought to be.  I therefore, have decided to return to blogging. The liberty to write words as they should be written, cannot be overemphasized.  So here ... Let me quickly say that ... This is specifically, an Igbo analogy ... Because the Igbo ethnic group is a significantly cultural one, and represents the African traditional society.  Continuing our discussion yesterday on the action of Ekwefi, Okonkwo's second wife, we should be gearing up for profound conversations around these five salient issues towards putting sensibilities to rest: 1. Is a wife a stranger in her husband's family? 2. Does the man need his wife's permission to take a second wife, or re-evaluate the love relationship with his wife? 3. Was there ever a time that wives were stopped from cheating? 4. Is Marriage really an achievement, and if yes, within what premises is this so? 5. What equality are women re...

NON-TOXIC FEMINISM: GENDER EQUALITY FROM A CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE (3)

Ekwefi was still married to Anene when she decided to become Okonkwo's wife.  Achebe's book did not present details of abuse or maltreatment in the marriage contracted between Anene and Ekwefi.  She was simply bored and needed to go over to a successful groom. On her way to the stream one day, Ekwefi decided to pay Okonkwo, a married man, a visit.  The rest is history, they say. She did not inform Anene she was going to visit Okonkwo. She did not tell Anene she was moving on with Okonkwo. Ekwefi simply walked on with the man after her heart, without any consideration that Anene was still committed to their union. There was no record of dissenting opinions regarding Ekwefi's act in Umuofia - it was a regular occurrence, most likely.  Life quietly went on.  Anene was refunded some money with which he would take another wife. Today, men are expected to inform their wives before re-evaluating their marriages. Meanwhile ... Women who initiated divorces or breakups ne...
