UPDATE ON HATE SPEECH BY ADE COKER SUZAN OF RANT HQ

( By Ifedimma Onwugbufor)

Igbo will say, OMEJILI UKWU TINYE N'OKU.
Yoruba will say, NKAN MBE.
Hausa will say, TOH.
😁😁😁😁😁😁

A reputable Lagos-based lawyer, Barrister Chukwunonso Ikenna Olisakwe has filed a petition against Ms. Suzan Ade Coker, the Creative Director of Rant HQ, a massive and volatile Facebook group for her hate speech against the Igbo-speaking people of South Eastern Nigeria, denoting ethnic intolerance which has been recorded over time, but culminated after an infamous online post was shared by a member of the group 👇 last wee.

Rather than caution the poster, Coker lent her voice 👇 to that inanity as many disgruntled members resented the initial post.

Unfortunately, one of the baselines on which RANT HQ as an online group was formed, stipulates intolerance to hate speech 👇.

This petition is necessitated by Ade Coker's constant and unprovoked malicious remarks against a certain ethic group, capable of degenerating to violence, if not mitigated.

Nigerians are expected to conduct themselves appropriately, applying civility in their communications and understand that nothing will be taken for granted, if history will not repeat itself.

It's been 50 years the most humiliating genocide ever recorded in Nigeria, happened and unguarded and hateful statements by sensitive personalities like Suzan Ade Coker, whose followership runs into millions may trigger genocide once again.

This petition is forwarded in the best interest of Nigeria to ensure that no ethnic group (s) is scapegoated to retaliate or be coerced into unhealthy verbiage that are regarded as inciteful and malicious by law.

This will also serve as a deterrent to future occurrences where Nigerians may seize the opportunity occasioned by internet popularity to share remarks deemed unhealthy, abrasive and unkind, especially when these remarks do not conform to the provisions of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Thanks to all well-meaning Nigerians who, in one voice, condemned these atrocious and shameful communications which further patronised the Igbo-speaking people of South Eastern Nigeria, causing collective emotional trauma, by making a statement, especially the members of RANT HQ.

Stay safe.

NON-TOXIC FEMINISM: GENDER EQUALITY FROM A CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE (2)

Facebook restrictions make it difficult for social media users to express cogent opinions as they ought to be.  I therefore, have decided to return to blogging. The liberty to write words as they should be written, cannot be overemphasized.  So here ... Let me quickly say that ... This is specifically, an Igbo analogy ... Because the Igbo ethnic group is a significantly cultural one, and represents the African traditional society.  Continuing our discussion yesterday on the action of Ekwefi, Okonkwo's second wife, we should be gearing up for profound conversations around these five salient issues towards putting sensibilities to rest: 1. Is a wife a stranger in her husband's family? 2. Does the man need his wife's permission to take a second wife, or re-evaluate the love relationship with his wife? 3. Was there ever a time that wives were stopped from cheating? 4. Is Marriage really an achievement, and if yes, within what premises is this so? 5. What equality are women re...

NON-TOXIC FEMINISM: GENDER EQUALITY FROM A CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE (3)

Ekwefi was still married to Anene when she decided to become Okonkwo's wife.  Achebe's book did not present details of abuse or maltreatment in the marriage contracted between Anene and Ekwefi.  She was simply bored and needed to go over to a successful groom. On her way to the stream one day, Ekwefi decided to pay Okonkwo, a married man, a visit.  The rest is history, they say. She did not inform Anene she was going to visit Okonkwo. She did not tell Anene she was moving on with Okonkwo. Ekwefi simply walked on with the man after her heart, without any consideration that Anene was still committed to their union. There was no record of dissenting opinions regarding Ekwefi's act in Umuofia - it was a regular occurrence, most likely.  Life quietly went on.  Anene was refunded some money with which he would take another wife. Today, men are expected to inform their wives before re-evaluating their marriages. Meanwhile ... Women who initiated divorces or breakups ne...

A CALL FOR RESEARCH ON SOCIAL REALITIES

In this epoch of cthulhucene, it is important that mankind remains what its species is meant to be, so that coexisting with non-human forms will not degenerate to a reckless ecological risk.  It is no gainsaying that the current generation regarded as the Youth living in Nigeria, walk around with damaged personalities. Exam malpractice is on the rise in most educational institutions, perpetrated by the youth (with other enablers though).  From miracle centers to willingly giving sex, or engaging in other forms of inducements to excel in examinations, to buying of examination questions and also, different types of forgery, this generation has also leveraged technological advancement to attain heights of greatness, and also immense plethora of criminal and unethical feats. Socially, they have nothing to offer. Their contracted marriages and love relationships are mostly disasters. For them, their material gratification comes before any emotional entanglement. No researcher deems...
